Fearing tough questions, Ram Madhav avoided media in Jammu
Message from Srinagar
6/24/2015 11:59:42 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 24: BJP national general secretary and RSS ideologue Ram Madhav reached Jammu on Monday on the eve of the Balidan Diwas and left the winter capital for Srinagar on Tuesday without participating in the Balidan Diwas programme, organized half-heartedly by the district-level workers of the party at the sacred Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan to remember Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and his contribution to the integration of J&K to India. (Mookerjee, who had violated the permit system while entering the state, laid down his life in Srinagar on June 23, 1953. His martyrdom in Kashmir hastened the process of integration of J&K with the rest of the country.) Half-heartedly because the BJP and the Sangh Parivar had forfeited their moral and political right to remember Mookerjee because they worked out and adopted an agenda of alliance that negated the whole philosophy and ideology of Mookerjee and threw his concept of the state into a dustbin and contemplated everything that Mookerjee had bitterly opposed and fought against. Also half-hearted because the organizers knew that the event would get vitiated the moment BJP ministers landed at the Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan along with with their official cars carrying the red flags. It is a different story that none of the BJP ministers turned up for the programme. Why? Only they could explain.
Anyway, as said Ram Madhav didn't take part in the Balidan Diwas programme. The reasons why he didn't take part were obvious. His participation in the programme would have annoyed the BJP's coalition partner, which is not only for two constitutions and two flags, but also for the wholesale withdrawal of all the central laws and institutions from the state as it, like other Kashmiri parties and separatist outfits, considered these laws anti-Kashmir and anti-Kashmiriyat and held these laws responsible for the "alienation" of Muslim Kashmir from India.
Very significantly, Ram Madhav, who held meetings with BJP ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs and party office-bearers to discuss ways and means calculated to make the coalition a success and review the performance of the BJP ministers, didn't interact with media persons in Jammu. He avoided media persons because he knew that he would be cornered and rendered clueless or he would have no answers to the questions likely to be raised by the alert media persons in Jammu. Had he faced the media persons in Jammu, he would have felt completely embarrassed. He would have cut a sorry figure as he would not have been able to defend the agenda of alliance. That's reason he was mortally afraid of them. It was for nothing that he avoided media in Jammu.
However, in Kashmir, Ram Madhav interacted with the media persons and he gave four clear messages. One, the coalition would complete its full term; two, the BJP and its coalition partner are doing a wonderful job; three, the BJP endorsed the Kashmiri viewpoint on Article 370, NHPC-managed and controlled power projects and AFSPA; and four, the agenda of alliance will be implemented in letter and spirit.
"I was in Jammu for the whole day yesterday. I met all BJP ministers and MLAs. There is no confrontation between the two coalition partners. Everyone is working in a cooperative manner...It is natural to have expectations that things can be better. It is good for the government when there are expectations. But there are no differences or tension between the coalition partners," he said. When asked about the demand for return of power projects from NHPC to the state, Madhav said "talks are on between the state and the Centre on the issue, as we have said in the agenda (Agenda for Alliance - the common minimum programme between coalition partners) that we will talk about it with the Centre". "Common Minimum Program (CMP) between BJP and PDP coalition would be followed in letter and spirit. Whatever we have raised in CMP, including AFSPA, NHPC and Article 370, the party will follow it letter and spirit," he further told media persons in Srinagar.
All this should establish that Ram Madhav, who spoke for and on behalf of the party high command and Narendra Modi government, came to Kashmir only to reassure his coalition partner that the BJP was with it and the BJP would not review the agenda of alliance. The people of Jammu region must take a cognizance of his four messages from Srinagar and do all that they could to controvert the baneful influence of the agenda of alliance on Jammu region and Jammu society as well as the Indian state as a whole. It would be suicidal if they overlooked the Ram Madhav's message from Kashmir.
