Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 24: Beware! Having fair colour may land you in a spot of bother as in the case of former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president Omar Abdullah's two sons who got themselves entangled in a net of mistaken identity at the Taj Mahal's entrance since they were denied permission by the authorities to enter premises of the historical monument owing to their foreigners like appearance.
However, after initial hiccups, the sons of former CM later managed to get an entry into the monument after the intervention of Uttar Pradesh Police.
According to sources, NC president Omar Abdullah's sons Zaheer and Zamir along with a group of their friends and security personnel went to visit the Taj Mahal on Tuesday but the duo was stopped from entering the tomb as the staff of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) deputed at East Gate thought that the junior most Abdullahs were foreigners and should make entry to the monument only after purchasing tickets for the international tourists.
"Since the men of ASI and IRCTC were not aware that Zaheer and Zamir were Indian nationals and not foreigners, they were denied entry into Taj Mahal on tickets meant only for Indian tourists," sources said.
Moreover, the security men accompanying Omar's sons were carrying weapons which also created a hurdle for the VVIP children in getting a smooth entry into the historical monument as the staff of ASI and IRCTC refused to allow the carriage of arms and ammunition by the security staff citing rules laid down by the Supreme Court.
"The problems further compounded for Omar's sons because of the security personnel who were moving with weapons which as per the Supreme Court's guidelines are not allowed to be taken inside the premises of Taj Mahal," they said.
Sources further said that with the timely intervention of the police personnel of Taj Mahal Police Post, the matter got resolved and Omar 's sons as well as their friends' got entry into the premises of Taj Mahal but the security personnel accompanying them had to leave their weapons outside the monument.
