Will New Delhi imitate Islamabad, launch operation Zarb-e-Azb in Kashmir?
Eliminating anti- nationals in Valley

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 24: Pakistan on Tuesday reaffirmed that operations against criminals and terrorists will continue unhindered across the country to utilize the environment created due to the "phenomenal successes" of the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The decision was taken during a meeting between Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House. The meeting reviewed the internal and external security situation of the country, in addition to discussing the progress of Zarb-e-Azb. It was reiterated that Zarb-e-Azb would be taken to its logical conclusion regardless of the cost, and terrorists and criminals would be hunted down indiscriminately.
Operation Zarb-e-Azb is an offensive being conducted by Pakistan arned forces against various militant groups, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jundallah, al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, the Islamic movement of Uzbekistan and the Haqqani network. The operation was launched by the Pakistan armed forces on 15 June 2014 in North Waziristan (part of the Federally Administered Tribal Area - FATA), along the Afghan border as a renewed effort against militancy in the wake of the 8 June attack on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, for which the TTP and the IMU claimed responsibility. Part of the ongoing war in North West Pakistan up to 30,000 Pakistani soldiers are involved in Zarb-e-Azb, described as a "comprehensive operation" to flush out all foreign and local militants hiding in North Waziristan. The operation has received widespread support from the Pakistani political, defence and civilian sectors. As a result of the operation, overall security situation improved and terrorist attacks in Pakistan dropped to a six year low since 2008. During this ongoing operation, nearly 200 terrorists belonging to different terror outfits were liquidated and the operation is going on unabated, as Islamabad has decided to eradicate all anti-Pakistan elements.
Interestingly, the international community and human rights organizations, which day in and day out, urge New Delhi to protect the so-called human rights of dreaded and cruel Kashmiri separatists and terrorists, have not taken an exception to what has been going on in Pakistan. Islamabad doesn't care for them. It conducts itself in the best interest of Pakistan, with all in the country at its back and call.
Kashmir Valley and other parts of the state have been engulfed by the secessionist and sectarian violence, particularly since the late 1980s. The ongoing secessionist violence in the Valley has resulted in the murder of thousands of unarmed innocent civilians. It has also disturbed the socio-religious and political equilibrium in the state and culminated in the martyrdom of thousands and thousands of our dedicated soldiers and exodus of the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus from the Valley. Besides, because of the rise of separatism and terrorism, thousands of Sikhs have migrated from the Valley and uprooted many families in the militant-infested areas of Jammu region.
Ironically, the custodians of the Indian state have not done anything concrete in the state to rid it of all militants, terrorists and anti-nationals. They have not allowed the armed forces a freehand to deal with the situation. On the contrary, they have very tightly tied the hands of our security forces. As a result, they are suffering casualties at regular intervals. Elements in the political establishments in the state and at the centre are giving covert, if not overt, support to the anti-nationals, who are holding anti-India and pro-Pakistan rallies in different parts of the Valley almost on a daily basis and that too under the nose of the law and order authorities. Not only this, New Delhi has been consistently sending weak signals. So much so, some in the political establishment in Delhi and the ruling party at the centre have given a dangerous respectability to the anti-nationals in Kashmir by terming them "stakeholders" and endorsing their demand seeking review of the laws which the army need the most to meet the challenge posed by Pakistan and its Kashmiri agents. It would be no exaggeration to say that our security forces are a demoralized lot, notwithstanding the fact that they can accomplish the task in no time.
Why should New Delhi not emulate Islamabad? It must imitate Islamabad and launch Zarb-e-Azb-type operation in Kashmir and other parts of the state to eradicate terrorists and anti-nationals. The custodians of the Indian state have already causes enough damage to the state and the country's paramount interest. It's time for it to behave and salvage the situation in Kashmir by launching a full-scale military operation in the Valley against the merchants of death and destruction and agents of Pakistan.
