Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 28: The Deputation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) led by Senior Vice President Sham Lal Langer accompanied by Secretary General Arun Gupta and others called on the Commissioner Commercial Taxes (CCT) today in his office and apprised him about various problems and difficulties being faced by the business community.
According to press release, it was strongly pleaded that the recent type of surveys/audits conducted by the Commercial taxes department have created a sense of insecurity among the business community and have also disturbed the atmosphere of other adjoining market.
"This practice should be stopped and instead in case of any officer of Commercial tax department is desirous to visit any market he should take into confidence the President/ other office bearers of the concerned market before entering into the premises of any member of business community", they apprised.
The Commissioner was also apprised that the authorities at Lakhanpur are detaining the goods of registered dealers on the pretext of under valuation and are imposing heavy penalty on the same.
There is no yardstick to assess the value of goods and Chamber feels that if any item is considered to be undervalued, the same should be forwarded to concerned circle at Jammu so that the concerned dealer can plead his case and get the goods released.
The delegation also pleaded that incase there is a division in any family and the shop is divided between legal heirs, they should be allowed to do their business in the same premises with separate Tin numbers and separate firms.
The issue relating to sales by the best price to local people and granting of amnesty so that people can enter into new regime of GST with a clean state was also discussed in the meeting
The Commissioner Commercial Taxes department assured that the points raised in today's meeting shall be addressed on priority.
