BUDGAM, Sept 28: Due to inefficiency of its local legislator residents of Beerwah constituency in this Central Kashmir district lack basic amenities including road connectivity, electricity, healthcare and other daily problems. Locals alleged that Beerwah MLA Omar Abdullah had not only failed as Chief Minister but also as local legislator.
Residents said that Beerwah constituency has been discriminated by the successive governments on every front and all the political parties have failed to deliver as per their aspirations and promises made by the so called leaders from time to time have not been kept. Inhabitants of scores of villages including Arizal, Kandoora, Rusu, Raizwan, Sanoor, Nasrullahpora and Makhama, alleged that no one seems bothered about their plight.
The conditions of the roads in the constituency remain the same for past seven years. Locals said that the concerned MLA is least bothered towards the development works. They alleged that Omar had ignored Beerwah constituency due to his biased approach towards these villages despite the fact that he had won from the Beerwah constituency.
Similarly, the inhabitants of Sheipora, Batpora and Kanihama villages said that they lack basic facilities like water adding that they have to travel long distance with pitchers on their heads to fetch drinking water.
"Roads are in shambles, there is no electricity, health care is poor and one has to take an hour to complete a distance of 6-7 kilometers from Chewa to Kanihama due to pathetic road condition," said some of the residents. Besides, the transporters, the dilapidated condition of road also haunts the people of the villages situated along these roads in this constituency.
Local said that Omar has failed to deliver the good governance that is why people of Srinagar has shown him the door and now MLA of this constituency he had even failed to avail the benefits from central government schemes like PMGSY and MGNREGA in the constituency.
"The irony is that most of projects including development of main road which bisects Beerwah town into two parts, improvement in education sector, health sector, power sector and other much needed works were not taken seriously for last one year, because of which people of the area face a lot of hardships," said locals. They alleged that MLA has failed to sanction any major development project in the village from past one year.
Notably, Omar had lost from Sonwar assembly seat of Srinagar district but won from Beerwah seat by a thin margin 1000 votes in 2014 assembly elections.
