CAPD fails to rein in ration dealers
Black marketing of PDS ration goes unabated
9/28/2015 11:08:58 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 29: The black marketing of PDS ration is going on unabated in several panchayats of district Kathua, wherein writ of ration dealers is running large, who open stores at their will and supply ration to selected families as per their whims and fancies. One such case is ration dealer of village Jagatpur, adjoining Lakhanpur, who has allegedly been refusing to give ration to several families and ultimately the ration is sold in black in open market..
Residents of Jagatpur Panchayat informed Early Times that the ration depot was in the house of ration dealer Arun Singh son of Krishan Singh, which remained open only for few days in a month, in blatant violation of guidelines of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD), which made it mandatory to open ration depots throughout the day from morning to evening. "In the beginning of each month, the ration dealer distributes ration to few families and if some family failed to turn up for taking their quota from depot, which is in interior of village, the ration dealer refuses them their due", the inhabitants said.
"For the last nearly one decade, we are getting only PDS sugar but never got flour, rice. The dealer says that our family is allocated only sugar and not flour or rice", a resident of Chak Gota said.
He further said that majority of families in the panchayat belonged to marginalized sections and none dared to raise voice against the black marketing of ration and mal practices of the dealer. The residents appealed district administration to take action against the dealer and streamline the distribution of ration to all the families, which would also help to stop black marketing. Tehsil Supply Officer of Kathua Rural, Jewan Singh said that he would enquire into the matter and take proper action against the dealer.
