Chip Designer visits MIET

Jammu, Nov. 19: Susheel Sharma, an expert in the field of VLSI currently Consulting Engineer at Cavius Inc., San Francisco, USA visited Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jammu today. Susheel Sharma is a son of the soil who after completing his M.Sc Electronics degree from University of Jammu about 30 years ago, started his career as a Design Engineer in Semiconductor Complex Limited, Chandigarh where he established his credentials. He was then picked up by various chip design companies including a UK based company which later sent him to California, USA as a Physical Design Specialist. In between, he completed his M.S in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University, California (USA).He is an expert in designing and handling complex ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) development in the nano technology regime with latest 28/32/45 nm technologies. He has over 25 years of experience (including 14 years in USA) in all aspects of chip development process with proficiency.
He interacted with the students and delivered a lecture on 'Career Prospects in the Chip Design Industry' to the students of Electronics and Communication Dept. of MIET. During his lecture, he guided the students on the career prospects in the field of electronic hardware engineering with special reference to chip design. He also motivated them to take on this career and establish themselves in this ever growing field. Besides this, he covered, in detail, the procedure involved in the design of an IC chip which has multi-million basic gates. He also guided the faculty to go in for the software so that the students can learn the skill and translate the theory in to useful practical projects.
Earlier welcoming him in the college, Dr. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET appreciated the gesture of Sharma to pay a visit to MIET and guide the students on the current and emerging technology in the field of electronics.
