| Naeem Akther targets teachers from Jammu region | | Fraternity asks Minister to mend his ways or face agitation | | ET Report
Jammu, Nov 19: The Education Minister Naeem Akther allegedly turning dictator and targeting teachers from Jammu region has triggered resentment and they have threatened to hit the streets if Akther doesn't change his attitude.
Teachers from Jammu region are of the opinion the Education Minister has allegedly adopted the pick and choose policy. He has suspended and attached more teachers from Jammu region than Kashmir. Earlier this week during a surprise visit at Boys Higher Secondary School in Nowshera areas, Akhter asked for the removal of the principal following a below average academic performance of the school. "He didn't give a chance to the principal to explain his position. Someone needs to ask the Minister how many teachers and masters did he attach in Kashmir region," asked a teacher.
"Since the day Naeem Akther has taken over as the Education Minister he has unleashed terror. He (Akther) believes that he is the only competent person in Jammu and Kashmir," said a teacher.
He said, "We are being treated as second grade citizens. Akther believes that teachers have ruined the career of the students. He can't see how many IAS, KAS officers, engineers and doctors has Jammu region produced."
"Had teachers been incompetent JK would not have produced so many brilliant officers and students," the teacher added.
Sources said since the day Durbar has opened in Jammu, the Education Minister has asked his subordinates to act tough against the teachers. "It seems Akther is trying to settle personal scores with the teachers. He holds some personal grudge against the teachers from Jammu region," sources alleged.
"We have kept our fingers crossed and are praying that we don't lose our jobs in next six months," said a group of teachers.
They said that anti-Jammu approach of Naeem Akther is cause of worry. "If he continues to target us we will be left with no other option other than hitting the streets. We had voted for BJP with a hope that it would ensure that Kashmiri leaders don't impose themselves on the Jammu people. Despite BJP coming into power nothing has changed for us," the teachers added.
Sources said that Naeem Akther is fed up of Education portfolio and he is taking cajoles with teachers so that he is given some other ministry, preferably Tourism. "Teachers associations have extended all possible cooperation to Naeem Akther and all of us are putting in all the possible efforts to improve the Education standards in Jammu and Kashmir. If the Minister doesn't change his attitude we will raise the banner of revolt against him," said a teacher.
They said, "We have taken a strong exception to teachers and masters in Jammu region being targeted. We are not against the teachers from Kashmir region, we want Education Minister to mend his ways and treat us like human beings." |
