NOWSHERA, Nov 19: Under the programme to declare Nowshera, a cataract-free zone, a 3-day cataract surgery camp organized at Sub District Hospital Nowshera concluded here today. Over 280 eye patients were screened for the camp which was sponsored and organized by Viklang Chhatra Trust in collaboration with Health Department and District Blindness Control Society. 52 cataract patients, mostly old and infirm belonging to Kalakote, Sunderbani, Rajouri and Nowshera tehsils were selected for surgery. Dr Rajeev Sharma MS and Dr Aarti Sharma MS, renowned Eye Surgeons, performed 49 cataract operations implanting Intra-Ocular-Lenses. Three minor operations were also conducted for non-cataract defects. Most of the patients belonged to Gujjar and Bakarwal communities. A minor girl student of 9th class, whose one eye was severely affected by matured cataract, was also restored vision. Ajay Anand and Ram Krishan Sharma, Ophthalmic Assistants, assisted in the surgery. The beneficiaries included 23 women of far flung areas.
