Awareness programme held to mark world Toilet day

UDHAMPUR, Nov 19: On the World Toilet Day, a programme was organised by the Rural Development Department at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Udhampur. The District Panchayat Officer Sukriti Sharma was the chief guest and Chief Education Officer Bishan Singh was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The DPO while speaking on the occasion stressed that the schools are the best platforms for disseminating awareness at the entry point. She called upon the female students to be the engines of behavioural change as the practice of open defecation is a matter of shame and infringes upon the dignity and privacy of women.
The CEO said that mindset needs to be changed and it is the need of the hour for all to have access to toilet.
On the occasion, a symposium and a painting competition was held. Priya Thakur bagged the first prize in symposium while Santosh Kumari bagged first prize in painting competition.
Earlier, a prefabricated toilet was launched by the efforts of the district administration and handed over to the beneficiary.
