Jammu, May 19 : Excise Magistrate, Jammu, Y P Sharma today awarded two years imprisonment to an autoricksha driver for killing a man in a road accident nearly 13 years back. Autorickshaw driver Ramesh Kumar was facing trial since June 2, 2003 when one Kuldeep Kumar was killed in a road accident caused by him. He was driving the three-wheeler rashly and negligently at the time of the incident. After completing investigation, police had presented challan under sections 304-A and 279 of RPC in the court on November 7, 2013. The excise magistrate, after hearing the CPO and senior PO, observed that on the basis of evidence it could be very well held that prosecution had fully succeeded in proving the charges against the accused and there was no reason with the court to doubt the genuineness of the prosecution case. With these observations, the court awarded him two years imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs 3,000 on him. (JNF) |
