As Jammu swelters, 2 BJP ministers yet to take feedback on power, water crisis

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 19: As Jammu swelters under scorching heat with drinking water and power supply dwindling by the day, the two ministers of BJP holding charge of the two key ministries have conveniently closed their eyes to the miseries of people and are blissfully unaware of what many areas are going through , notwithstanding the fact many localities fall under their own constituencies.
The two ministers are paying no attention to the hardships nor are they taking notice of problems or shortcomings in their respective departments which have accentuated over the last two weeks. Sources said the two ministers came to Jammu, ate least once, after shifting of Darbar Move to Valley but these were more of private visits. None of these ministers went to Civil Secretariat nor attended any meetings with the higher officials of their respective departments, said the sources. At the most, the two ministers remained busy with some political activities during their brief visit in the winter capital and they flew back without even visiting the party headquarters.
Sources said as the PDP-BJP dispensation has almost done away with past practice of keeping the two Secretariats open after shifting of Darbar, the BJP is not pressing it either from their side the need for regular visits of the ministers to Jammu in summer months when hardships aggravate on all fronts for the people. It was the BJP while in opposition which would come on roads and stage protest demonstrations for checking erratic water and power supply, forcing the then governments to pay attention. Ironically, when the decision making in now in their hands, the ministers who used to be on the forefront of such protests have failed to take notice, leave alone taking remedial measures for providing succor, despite knowing well the magnitude of the hardships when mercury soars in Jammu.
Sources said even though the government is busy this time for the forthcoming Assembly session, none of the BJP ministers, including the power minister second in the hierarchy of government has asked for necessity to restore the practice of having proper roasters for visits of ministers in a phased manner who could hold meetings in the Secretariat and take stock of problems being faced by the people. However, contrary to BJP's reticent mode on this dire necessity, PDP ministers all through the winter months on their own assert and pay thorough attention to needs of entire Kashmir Valley when Darbar remains in Jammu. They not only ensure adequate stocks of ration and other essential commodities, but also ensure regular uninterrupted power supply up in the remote areas of Kashmir Valley. Will BJP ministers take any clue and lesson from their counterparts in PDP…?
