Allegations of harassment: SVC takes strict notice of JU functioning 5/19/2016 11:43:38 PM Early Times Report Jammu, May 19: Taking strong cognizance of the complaint filed by a former scholar of the Department of Economics University of Jammu, wherein she had leveled serious allegations of corruption and harassment against the Head Department Of Economics, University of Jammu Prof.Falendra Kumar Sudan, the State Vigilance Commission has expressed grave displeasure over the manner in which the JU administration has been working. Sources privy to the proceedings held in the court of the Chief Vigilance Commission disclosed to ET that the CVC expressed his displeasure over the repeated allegations of harassment of students and scholars and directed the JU Counsel to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of the University and ensure that such incidents were not repeated. As reported earlier, Dr.Rajni Sharma, an aspirant and former contractual lecturer at Udhampur Campus, had filed a complaint in several forums including the State Vigilance Commission against the appointment of Prof.Falendra Kumar Sudan as Head Department of Economics and as member of the committee constituted to conduct her interview for the post of lecturer in JU's Udhampur campus, even as she had filed serious charges of corruption and harassment against him. She alleged that JU authorities had deliberately deputed him as a member of the Interview committee to ensure that she was never selected. Alleging vindictive designs of JU administration, she had appealed before the SVC seeking justice. Dr Rajni Sharma had worked as a contractual lecturer in Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu from August 21, 2012 to September 28, 2015. "In September 2015, I appeared for the interview conducted by Jammu University for the Udhampur campus. The Interview committee included HOD Prof Falendra K Sudan against whom I had filed an FIR for bribery", she alleged adding that the professor was suspended, and got reinstated after he apologized before the JU administration. "In 2016 University rewarded Prof Falendra, by appointing him HoD, Economics, who allegedly demanded bribe for conducting my viva in 2017", she alleged, adding that he ensured that she was not be selected and gave very negligible marks to her even as rest of the members in the panel had given her decent marks. It is pertinent to mention here that several scholars have filed similar complaints against Prof.Falendra Kumar Sudan, but rather than taking appropriate action against the erring professor, the VC elevated him as HoD.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
