Rajouri, May 19: Flouting laid norms and using the administrative machinery to suit their vested interests, officials of PWD(R&B) are allegedly hand in glove with the anti-social elements in damaging the economy of the state in Rajouri district.
The Public Works Department that had allotted the work of shingling of the road from Devak to Bambliya in tehsil Sunderbani in Rajouri district through the e-tendering to two contractors at the cost to Rs 4.35 lakh.
However after the completion of the work of shingling, the contract was extended to macmadise the road, but codal procedure, according to the sources, was not followed in extending the tender and the engineers in connivance extended the work worth Rs 16-17 lakhs to both the contractors.
Sources alleged that there is a nexus between the engineers and they allot works to their selected contractors who pay them hefty commissions and together they loot the state exchequer.
When the Early Times contacted top officials of PWD in Jammu, they also expressed their helplessness saying the engineers in question enjoy great clout in the PWD and state administration.
They also alleged that the contractors too have a very strong political connections and they get the works of their choice.

"Let me come across the anti-social elements as well as the government employees indulging in this illegal work and anybody found guilty would be taken to task.
I will not let any government employee to misuse his official position to loot the state exchequer. They will be fired," assured Veeri.
