Srinagar, May 19: BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav will be visiting the state on Saturday (May 21) where he will chair the party legislators' meet and to review the overall performance of the coalition government.
Sources within the BJP said Ram Madhav will first hold the meeting with party legislators to seek their feedback about the governance at the gross root level in the state. "We expect Ram Madhav will receive feedback from every legislator and some party leaders about the about the PDP-BJP government in the state," a senior BJP leader said.
He also confirmed that the BJP General Secretary will also meet Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to discuss about the upcoming Budget session of the state starting from May 25. "The overall scenario of the state will also be discussed during the meeting besides the issues which have stirred controversies will also be discussed. He will come to ensure that coalition government runs very smoothly," the BJP leader said.
Ram Madhav was the architect of the PDP-BJP government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the party's point man also played an important part in restitching the alliance with the PDP after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Sources said Ram Madhav may also discuss with party leaders over the Sajad Lone, who has not assumed the charge of Social Welfare Department so far.
This will be first meeting of the Ram Madhav with the party legislators since the PDP-BJP led by Mehbooba Mufti formed in the state.
Mehbooba along 21 other ministers took oath on April 4. The PDP-BJP coalition has 56 MLAs in the 87-member assembly. The PDP has 27 members while BJP has 25. Peoples' Conference has two MLAs while two other Independents are supporting the coalition. The re-stitching of BJP-PDP alliance ended about three-month of governor's rule. The alliance had hit a low in this period and a couple of times it looked both the parties had snapped ties.
The revival of the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state became possible after several rounds of hectic negotiations between the two parties and apparent intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources said Ram Madhav has been told that he should ensure that government runs smoothly in the state without succumbing to the controversies stormed recently in the state. Sources said Mehbooba Mufti and Ram Madhav may also hold a joint meet with their party legislators about the upcoming Budget session.
