Separate Township for KPs unnerves separatists

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 19: The proposal of the government to set up separate township for housing Kashmiri Pandits, who were forced to flee from the Valley in 1990, is giving sleepless nights to separatists as they fear that it could prove to be the last nail in their coffin.
Separatists have set into motion a war of words against proposed separate township concept and have threatened agitation against any such move.
According to media reports the Hurriyat Conference led by the hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others are trying to double cross the Kashmiri Pandit community yet again by making a humble appeal to the community to oppose the proposed separate composite townships for them.
Separatists, who spearheaded the killings of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, are trying to intimidate the community by claiming that such a move would cut off the Kashmiri Pandits from the society in Kashmir further widening the gap between both the communities.
The political observers analysing the Geelani's appeal do not feel much surprised saying that there can be two sides of this appeal on one hand the separatists are trying to thrust their agenda of toppling the proposal of separate township with the indirect help of KPs. On the other hand separatists know it very well majority community in Kashmir is fed up of strikes and violence as it adds to the miseries of common man and even they call for agitation it would prove to be a "flop show."
A number of migrants Kashmiri Pandits while giving vent to their views said, "Kashmiri migrant youth, serving in the Valley under the employment package programme of PM, and living in separate colonies are comfortable as they term such an arrangement as secure where there is liberty to move out freely and always living under security cover keeps them away from the constant threat of anti-social elements operating in the Valley at the behest of a few hired persons running the crusade of so called freedom struggle on the instigation of their foreign handlers."
They contribute towards the view that security zones and separate Township for the KPs should be allowed to come up.
Another school of thought believes there is need to change the psyche of Kashmiri Muslims having been made habitual of issuing statements against Pandits and separate township as well as Sainik colony.
Rashi Dhar, a migrant teacher, said, that there is an urgent need of separate township for us. "I as a teacher go to school situated in a remote village in Kashmir everyday and teach students there, who are from majority community. I don't feel that they are not part of us. Living in separate colony or township doesn't mean, it is against Kashmiriyat or brotherhood.
Radha Krishan, a migrant, living in Jagti camp, said, separate township is a need of the hour in the Valley. Kashmiri Pandits are not against majority community but they should not oppose the separate Township just to appease a handful of separatists, who want to appease their masters sitting across the border.
He said, "Not only separatists are opposing the separate township but National Conference too has joined the chorus. Party on Thursday said that it would oppose separate colonies tooth and nail."
