Kulgam, May 21: Two revenue officials have been placed under suspension in south Kashmir's Kulgam district following allegations of corruption against them. Reports said they were placed under suspension by deputy commissioner, Kulgam, Shokwet Aziz. Official sources said a complaint was filed against the duo by a government lecturer, following which they were suspended and attached with the office of assistant commissioner, revenue (ACR), Kulgam. Sources said the ACR had been appointed as inquiry officer to investigate the matter within a fortnight. Sources said a lecturer identified as Farooq Ahmad lodged a written complaint with DC, Kulgam, against naib-tehsildar Bashir Ahmad and patwari Zahoor Ahmad of tehsil Katrasoo, alleging therein that they were demanding bribe from him for getting his file cleared. Phone call details of the accused officials had also vindicated the corruption allegations, a senior official said. He said that conversations between the officials and the person who had filed a complaint against them revealed that the accused had earlier accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 and were demanding more. "I had paid them Rs 5000 earlier but they were demanding more and were repeatedly calling me," the lecturer told the DC at the time of filing written complaint. Taking a strong note of the incident, the DC placed the duo under suspension. "Both the officials will remain attached with the office of assistant commissioner, Kulgam, till the inquiry is completed," reads an order issued in this regard. Assistant Commissioner Kulgam-the enquiry officer- has been directed to submit a factual report within a fortnight, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani said. |
