Cong leaders fishing in troubled waters, skip blood donation camp | Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 21: A few state Congress leaders are trying to resist the efforts being made by the senior Congress leader and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad to end factionalism in the party in Jammu and Kashmir. This was evident during the blood donation programme held at the PCC party headquarters here on the occasion of death anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi on Saturday. Despite the high significance of the programme and prior information to all for the same, a few leaders boycotted the event, which was held under the chairmanship of PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma. According to the sources in Congress circles, former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, G M Saroori and Jugal Kishore as well as others, including SubashBhagat, Ashok Sharma, Vikar Rasool, etc, did not attend the blood donation programme. Even as Ghulam Nabi Azad is learnt to have personally conveyed it to Congress leaders to attend the programme, they preferred to skip it due to factionalism, sources said. While these leaders boycotted the programme apparently to establish their strength in the party, sources said that the documentary evidence of their absence is being brought into the notice of the Congress high command, which has been telephonically apprised of the development. Even Ghulam Nabi Azad has not approved this action and has expressed his displeasure over the same, sources added. It may be recalled that Ghulam Nabi Azad, during his recent visit to Jammu, had preferred to remain in the company of Sharma brothers ( Sham Lal Sharma and Madan Lal Sharma) and this had surprised his loyalists. |
