Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 24: As the number of patients is increasing with each passing day, the chemists are becoming rich as the Drug and the Health department have allegedly given a free hand to these "unscrupulous" chemists.
Common people are up in arms against the government for failing to provide medicines to the patients at economical prices.
The government has given the permission to open 'Sanyog enterprises' in the premise of GMCH Jammu which is giving 10% concession on medicines but all the patients can't reach GMCH to buy the medicine.
It is pertinent to mention here that these chemists get margin of 40% to 60% on medicines from different pharmaceutical companies and when these chemists are hesitant to give any concession and sell the drugs at fixed price barring some chemists who give 10% discount.
These chemists loot the patients under the very nose of the administration which acts as a mute spectator.
"I and my wife are suffering from various ailments so we purchase medicines every week for Rs 1000 but we don't get any discount on the medicines. Government has turned a blind eye towards this issue "said a senior citizen.
Senior citizens flayed the Government for not devising any strategy to give them some respite. " We need help at this crucial juncture a s we are reeling under gray days of our life," senior citizens said.
Aseptuagenarian, Roshan Lal hit out at successive Government for taking them for a ride and the so called claims of Government of providing better healthcare is mere rhetoric if the Government fails to provide us the medicines at concession at least by 20% to 30%.
Surprisingly, when this reporter tried to contact Minister for Health and Medical education on his cell number 9419100709 available on the GAD website a person who picked up the call disconnected the call. On the second attempt he said "Wrong number and Don't disturb".
Later, when this reporter managed to get the cell number of the minister9419110709, the minister couldn't be contacted.
