Court frames charges in Udhampur petrol bomb attack case

Jammu, May 27: In the October 9, 2015 Udhampur petrol bomb attack case, principal sessions judge, Udhampur, Rakesh Sagar Jain today framed charges against the accused. The charges were framed against Balbhadur Singh, Danish, Varinder Singh, Harish Katoch, Sunit Singh, Rahul Sharma, Sandoor Singh, Amit Singh, Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, Balram Singh alias Pankaj Singh, Raju Rameshwar Singh, Jasbir Singh and Vikas Sharma under various sections of RPC. Prosecution case against Varinder, Haresh, Sunit, Sandoor, Rahul, Rameshwar, Rohit, Balram and Ameet is that on October 9, 2015, SGC Narinder Singh was on patrol duty at Jhakani along with other police personnel was on patrol duty when at about 10.20 pm, he received information from a reliable source that they were stoning vehicles on the national highway near a bridge ay Bharat Nagar. In the incident, Innova (JK19/2649) was damaged and Mohammad Ismail, who was travelling in it, sustained injuries. He rushed to the spot and apprehended Bal Bhadur Singh while the others escaped. A case was then registered against the accused at Udhampur police station. Police also claimed to have picked up from the spot pieces of a glass bottle and a cloth wick smelling of petrol. In another incident of stone-pelting on Sumbal road on October 9, 2015, a truck (JK18/4094), which was on its way to Srinagar, was also damaged. Its driver Khursheed Ahmad Naik and one Siar Ahmad were wounded in the incident. It came to fore in police investigation that some youth were standing on Sumbal road when Rameshwar Singh showed them on WhatsApp an alleged incident of cow slaughtering at Chenani. He also allegedly apprised them of a beef party at Srinagar and felt that Hindus needed to do something about it. Balbhadur, Danish, Varinder, Harish, Sunit, Rahul, Sandoor, Amit, Rohit, Kuldeep, Balram alias Pankaj and Raju were held guilty of offences under sections 307, 332, 336, 337, 427, 147, 148, 149 and 120-B of RPC, 3 (5) of Explosive Substances Act. Rameshwar and Jasbir were held guilty of offences under sections 307, 332, 336, 337, 427, 147, 148, 149 and 120-B of RPC and 3(5) of Explosive Substances Act. Accused Vikas Sharma was held guilty of offence under section 212 of RPC.
The judge, after hearing the two sides, the judge observed that there was sufficient material on record for framing charges against all the accused for the offences mentioned above.
