Thieves steal BSNL cable, snaps 200 landline connections

Rajouri, May 27: Burglars struck at highly protected Abdullah Bridge in the heart of Rajouri town and decamped with about 100 meters of BSNL cable resulting in the disconnection of more than 200 land line telephones.
Poluce sources said that cable packed in 4" GI pipe welded with other pipes (PHE's) was passing through the bridge and the burglars, whose number could be 4-5, after cutting GI pipe and taking about two hours in the process to steal the cable decamped without being noticed by the cops protecting the bridge 24x7 days."
"It was third incident during last two months when the burglars had struck at the same place and had decamped cable carrying more than 400 pairs of land line connections, sources said. They added said that the cable carries copper wire which is costly metal and the burglars thus have stolen the BSNL wires just to make money.
Rahul Suri, in-charge technician recalled that in the month of April the burglars struck at the same point and had decamped with more than 100 meters of cable.
He however wandered the bridge is sensitive place and is protected 24X7 by the policemen then how the burglars can steal the cable.
Here it needs to mention that more than eight burglary complaints have been lodged at Rajouri Police Station during last one year. "But police yet has failed to arrest any burglar and even no protection was provided to BSNL cable at the Bridge (only space where cable is above the ground), officials added.
More than 200 telephones including of common man, journalists, army officers, intelligence agencies were snapped after the stealing of BSNL cable resulting in inconvenience to them in their routine important assignments.
"The SSP Rajouri has assured that he will sought explanation from the policemen on duty in the area on the intervening night of May 26 &27, "a BSNL official.
Meanwhile HK Verma, CGM,Jammu Circle, BSNL said briefly said "The matter is not in my notice."
He at the same time added that after getting updates from concerned officials necessary arrangements will be made to provide the required items for the early restoration of the snapped landline phones."
