Garbage from Kishtwar drains finally gets removed after two decades

KISHTWAR, Mar 21: In a significant development after the establishment of democratically elected local body in Kishtwar town, the Municipal Committee Kishtwar in coordination with the R&B department finally cleared the garbage from the two drains on both sides of Jammu-Kishtwar-Anantnag National Highway passing through Kishtwar town after two long decades.
The drains which cover the area of Bus Stand Kishtwar had turned as big nuisance for the people visiting the area and the traders running their business there since the choked drains were emanating foul smell.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the shopkeepers along with daily commuters held several protests against the Kishtwar Municipal Committee as well as against the GREF officials, R&B and NHIDCL who hold the responsibility of the maintenance of the road, rather a dilapidated stretch, as a result of which it becomes the main agenda in recently held Municipality elections in Kishtwar town.
Speaking to "Early Times" President Municipal Committee Kishtwar, Riaz Ahmed Zargar said that after Kishtwar Municipality comes into existence, the maintenance of drains near Bus Stand Kishtwar was on the top priority of all the members of the committee adding that all the members of the Municipal Committee Kishtwar are committed towards providing better facilities to the people beside to work towards beautification of Kishtwar town. He said that R&B department provides all the logistic and other support in executing the various developmental projects including road widening project which is key for decongestion of traffic mess in Kishtwar town. He said that various developmental works will be taken into hands soon after the winter season ended.
Earlier in the day, the shopkeepers of the area also held a strong protest over the allege delay in finishing the repair work of drains as a result of which they were facing lot of inconvenience however the officials said that due to continuous rainfall, the construction-cum-repair work on both sides of the drain got affected and assured that same will be completed on war footing.
