MUMBAI, JANUARY 17- The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah has asked the corporate houses to turn their attention towards Jammu and Kashmir assuring them that good news will start coming from J&K in 2009, even as ESSAR Group announced the setting up of two BPO centres–one each in Jammu and Srinagar, which would create 2,000 jobs in each city.
Abdullah was speaking after presenting Business India's Businessman of the Year 2008 Award to Mr. P. R. S. Oberoi, Chairman of the Oberoi Group, at a glittering function here last evening.
The Chief Minister was the Chief Guest for the award ceremony and dinner at a gala event attended by over 1,200 captains of business and industry.
Former Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Who is Who of the corporate world, J&K Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. S. S. Slathia, Chief Minister's Political Advisor, Mr. Devender Singh Rana and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai were also present on the occasion.

Jammu, Jan 17: In first major road accident of the year, at least thirteen passengers, including two Special Police Officers, three sisters and three infants, were killed and fifteen others were injured, five of them critically this afternoon when a passenger bus skidded off the road on Thatri-Gandoh road in Doda district.

Jammu, Jan 17: One person died while another was injured in a mysterious blast which took place inside a scrap shop at Jaganu near Udhampur on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, here today.
Sources that one person died and another was injured when an explosion took place inside a scrap shop in Udhampur. Sources added that scrap dealer was molding iron and copper scrap when the explosion took place.
The deceased have been identified as Lal son of Gutu Ram of Bhagpur Udhampur, while the injured has been identified as Om Prakash son of Jagdish Raj resident of Maga who has been shifted to Udhampur district Hospital. Police has registered a case in this regard.

New Delhi, Jan 17: The government's ordinance for establishment of 12 central universities and upgrading three existing universities to that level has been promulgated by President Pratibha Patil, setting in motion the process for starting the institutions.
The government has already introduced the Central Universities Bill 2008 in the Lok Sabha for setting up these institutions. However, the government proposed to take the ordinance route as the Bill could not be passed in the last session of Parliament.
