JAMMU, Nov 16: Nearly six months after he bade adieu to the Raj Bhawan, the former Governor Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha still continues to inspire the politics of controversies in Jammu and Kashmir which is now reaching a crescendo in the middle of poll season.
Two former Chief Ministers –Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Dr Farooq Abdullah –have sought a probe into alleged ‘links’ of Gen Sinha with self-styled seer Dayanand Pandey who is being questioned in connection with blasts in Malegaon, Nanded and Samjhauta express.
Officers of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad probing the case have been quoted by the agencies as saying that Dayanand Pandey was an official guest of then Governor Sinha and once he stayed in the Raj Bhawan in 2007. However, Gen Sinha, who currently resides in New Delhi has categorically rubbished there reports saying that he never met Pandey.

SRINAGAR, Nov 16: More than two dozen persons, most of them labourers, are feared to have died after they were drowned in river Jhelum following the collapse of an under- construction bridge in border town of Uri in North Kashmir's Baramulla district early this morning.
Reports said that bodies of four persons including a non-local labourer were retrieved up-to 1330 hours. Parampila Bridge— connecting Karamteela and Bardi villages— caved in the middle and plunged into the fast flowing river Jhelum.

JAMMU, Nov 16: Stage is set for tough battle as 102 candidates try their fate in ten assembly constituencies spread over four districts going to polls tomorrow.
State administration and officials associated with the election duty claim to have made foolproof security and other arrangement for conduct of fair and free polls. JAMMU, Nov 16: The Indian Air Force has deployed number of helicopters for transportation of polling staff, electronic voting machines and security personnel for smooth conduct of Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly election. An elaborate plan has been made by HQ AOC Jammu and Kashmir for the seven phases of the election from November 17 to December 24, 2008.
According the Wing Commander Hari Krishan IAF Nodal Officer for elections, IAF deployed four helicopters on 15th and 16th November for the Gurez constituency and moved 232 polling staff and security personnel to various polling stations in a major operation.
