NEW DELHI, DEC 4: Today’s incident of shooting at Srinagar is bound to give headache to the Union Home Ministry. Throughout the evening there was no reaction from the Ministry about the incident in which a senior Hurriyat leader was shot at and critically wounded in the summer Capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Yet indications are that the security net around separatist brigade would tighten in the days to come.
It seems that the task of issuing initial response to the attack on Fazal Haque Qureshi has been left by the Central Government to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He has indicated that the peace nicks in Hurriyat bandwagon face real threat of life.

The state government has failed to give the chief secretary’s grade to several IAS officers despite at least four vacancies. The IAS officers become entitled to this grade, with a basic of Rs 80,000, after completing 30 years of service.
Presently, there are only three officers in J&K who are placed in this grade, the Chief Secretary, Mr S S Kapur, and Mr S S Sahni, the Resident Commissioner of J&K operating out of 5 Prithviraj Road, Delhi, and the Financial Commissioner (Home), Mr Samuel Verghese.
Mr Sahni is the seniormost IAS officer in the state and Mr Kapur had superseded him last year.

New Delhi: The government on Friday said it was working closely with the Medical Council of India and has liberalised norms for opening new colleges to produce more doctors to meet shortage of medical staff in primary health centres.
"For opening of new medical colleges, land requirements have been rationalised. In respect of North-East and hill states, the bed strength in the teaching hospitals has been liberalised among other steps," Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said in Lok Sabha during the Question Hour.
Eight new AIIMS-like hospitals, which would also have medical colleges, would be opened in next two years, he said.

JAMMU, DEC 4: Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department has decided to reduce the number Kerosene oil depots as according to the ministry considerable reduction in consumption was recorded. Result of which one thousand liters were surrendered during the month of October onwards, even after about 1111 kerosene licenses were cancelled three years ago.
The question, however, remains: have the numbers of consumers reduced or the people have turned so rich in Jammu that they don’t need kerosene any more to use?
