Congress leadership led by General Secretary All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Incharge J&K Ambika Soni, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced that party will go solo in the Assembly polls due later this year and will not enter into any pre-poll alliance.

| | | | What lies beneath Omar's knee jerk responses to Congress' decision! | | NC-Congress divorce | | | Jammu, July 20: Contrary to the tweets of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah following formal announcement of Congress leadership to dissolve the six year old coalition it had with the National Conference, sources divulge that the Congress high command didn't concede to the request of the Chief Minister on pre-poll alliance, though he had pleaded and pitched strongly for it. The high command had dropped enough signals to him and then finally decided to take a call.
Senior Congress leaders, wishing not to be named, said contrary to what Omar is tweeting, the fact is he was desperate to stitch and alliance. Sources said the alliance would have benefited Omar much more than the Congress.

| | | | Azad blames own party men for disintegration of Congress | | No to pre-poll alliance | | | Rustam
JAMMU, July 20: As expected, the July 19 Congress convention at Jammu witnessed noisy scenes, with almost everyone openly condemning the Congress Ministers and accusing them of being corrupt, anti-party and anti-Jammu and opposing tooth nail the suggestion of any kind of pre-poll alliance with the National Conference. It was nothing but a convention of discontent and dissatisfaction. Everything happened in the presence of AICC leaders Ambika Soni, in-charge J&K Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Union Minister and PCC president, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz. The convention was held to listen to the views of the party workers at the grassroots level, as also to ascertain what led to the Co...
| | | | Shocked Omar plays to galleries | | | | Srinagar, July 20: The decision of Ambika Soni that Cong will go to polls alone has un-nerved the Chief Minister so much that he said the decision to go alone in the polls was taken by NC and it was accordingly conveyed to Sonia Gandhi 10 days ago. Omar also said that Farooq Abdullah will not contest elections for health reasons. This is another admission of defeat, believe the political analysts. Interestingly, the seniors in the NC wanted return of Dr Farooq to state politics. They were critical of the role of CM and held him responsible for the poll debacle. Farooq, it may be mentioned suffered the first ever defeat during the Parliamentary elections. The defeat, it seems has had an adve... | |
| | | | Mess continues in Technical education Deptt as two sectors remain headless | | Recruitment rules remain elusive | | | Jehangir Rashid
SRINAGAR, July 20: Despite the change of guard at the top mess continues to prevail in the Department of Technical Education as the State Government is running two critical sectors in the department on adhoc basis. This is despite the fact that the sectors polytechnic and Industrial Training Institute (ITI) are employment generating.
Sources told Early Times that these two sensitive sectors in the state are virtually headless because the two posts of Joint Directors created for implementation of 100 percent centrally sponsored schemes in 2008 in ITI sector are still unfilled for want of recruitment rules.
On the other hand while as one post of Joint Director created ...
| | | | Is proposed rehabilitation package for POK refugees a hoax? | | Govt sans record/lists of refugees | | | Akshay Azad
Jammu, July 20: On the hind side of bitter politicking over the issue of one time settlement for the PoK refugees in Jammu and Kashmir, the bizarre fact is that the Jammu and Kashmir government has no record of refugees displaced in 1947 from various areas of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir.
In reply to an RTI application filed by a Human Right activist Om Parkash Khajuria of Miran Sahib, the office of Custodian (Ex-officio Provincial Rehabilitation Officer) Jammu, number PRO/2013-14/674, has explicitly maintained that no list of refugees was available with the office.
Moreover, the reply further stated that however 31619 displaced families of 1947 from Pakistan Occupied Kashm...

Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, July 20: Trying to prove himself as the sympathizer of the people, the general secretary of the National Conference, Ali Mohammad Sagar has advocated revocation of AFSPA, as according to him the time is right for it. Sagar perhaps is unaware that the cabinet committee on security has even scrapped the amendment in the controversial law by the UPA government.
Commoners believe that it is all about the political compulsions as faced by the National Conference that it talks about the revocation of the AFSPA otherwise its leaders have no problems with this law.
The leaders of this party have been lauding the role of the armed forces for bringing peace back to th...
| | | | On getting abusive, putting curbs on media's freedom of expression! | | | | Sandeep Bhat
JAMMU, July 20: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, we heard with patience your views on Media and its role in the present day world during a social function organised by a Hindi daily here in Jammu on Sunday.
Your sermon brought back memories of victimisation of owners of the Early Times newspaper by the state administration. All efforts were made to bulldoze this institution, curb its independence and reduce it to government mouthpiece. Official machinery was tasked with harming business interests of the newspaper owners and this all was done to penalise Early Times for speaking the language people like.
We exist because people of Jammu and Kashmir read us. You talk about mora...
| | | | Lal Singh quits Cong, likely to join PDP | | | | KATHUA, July 20: Two times Member Parliament from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua segment and former Minister, Choudhary Lal Singh today resigned from the Congress party.
Lal Singh is most likely to join People’s Democratic Party (PDP) because today he has given hints about joining Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's party. Lal Singh had served as Health Minister when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was Chief Minister of the State.
Decision of Lal Singh to quit Congress is perceived a severe setback to the party. After defeat of Ghulam Nabi Azad from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat, Congress leadership in the State was demanding action against Lal Singh for sabotage elections of Azad.
Lal Singh today convened meeting o...
