Non-performers carrying the day, bestowed awards in Omar Abdullah administration
8/18/2012 11:28:56 PM
Bashir Assad Srinagar, Aug 18: Bestowing awards to some officers whose achievements and performances are not yet visible, has really surprised many. On the eve of 66th Independence day, the Jammu and Kashmir Government gave awards to those only who are favorites of some while the real performers have been left unnoticed. Awards have been only given to the chosen ones who are favorites of those heading the administration and who are self proclaimed administrators. It was really astonishing to find the little known officers having no higher achievements at their back, being bestowed gold medals and citations as compared to others who could be considered for such awards. It has been seen that objectivity of the administrators always gets blurred as they cant see beyond their chosen ones. The fundamental question remains, how a person can be judge in his own cause. But unfortunately people from General Administration Department have always been their when it comes to giving awards for outstanding performances. To quote some examples Khursheed Ahmad Gan-ai, Basharat Ahmad Da...

8/18/2012 11:28:37 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz srinagar, Aug 18: Even as decks had been cleared for release of over a dozen separatist activists and leaders from different jails on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, Government has suddenly withdrawn plan of setting any one of them free. Reasons were not yet explicitly clear but well-placed authoritative sources revealed to Early Times that the decision of not releasing any one of the political detainees and prisoners was "final". According to these sources, there was "serious difference of opinion" with regard to release of Muslim League chief and one-time Jamiatul Mujahideen functionary, Ashiq Hussain Faktoo alias Dr Qasim, and few others between sections of top ranking offici...

Bhalla for comprehensive law for checking land misuse
8/18/2012 11:28:18 PM
Early Times Report jammu, Aug 18: If left to the Minister for Agriculture, G.H. Mir, he would support any move that could make it impossible for people to convert agricultural land for non-agricultural activities and practices. Mir wants the Bill that is with the Select Committee of the State Legislature to be tabled in the next session of the Assembly for adoption. Against this the Minister for Revenue and Relief, Raman Bhalla, who heads the Select Committee, wants to see that the State Legislature adopted a law that could be implemented. He is against adoption of a law simply for the sake of keeping the record straight without ensuring that the same piece of law was enforced and people ...

8/18/2012 11:27:43 PM

OIC exploiting Delhi's ambiguous stand on J&K
Makkah Summit
8/18/2012 11:27:12 PM
Neha jammu, Aug 18: New Delhi did exceedingly well by taking on head on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and saying its mention of Jammu and Kashmir as a country is "unacceptable". The OIC held its Fourth Extraordinary Summit in Makkah on August 14-15, 2012, under the heading of "Solidarity With Other Member States" and its final declaration said: "The Summit affirms its solidarity and full support for Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir, Iraq, Yemen, Ivory Coast, the Union of Comoros and the Republic of Turkish-Cyprus in addressing the challenges facing these countries." New Delhi took two days to take on the OIC and assert that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral...

Ansari's appointment as UGC member not surprising
Rewarding The Undesirable
8/18/2012 11:26:51 PM
Rustam jammu, Aug 18: The Ministry of Human Resource Development on August 16 appointed former interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir MM Ansari as member of University Grants Commission (UGC) for a term of three years. It should not surprise anyone. New Delhi has consistently rewarded those who have either spoken against India and Indian Constitution or who have demanded independence for Jammu and Kashmir from India. During the Vajpayee regime, Amitabh Mattoo, who had written extensively on Jammu and Kashmir and demanded for it a separate dispensation as well as a mechanism that promoted the Pakistani cause in the Indian Jammu and Kashmir, was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University. He...
