JKPWA demands release of dues to retired erstwhile GTU employees

Jammu, Dec 14: J&K Pensioners Welfare Asso-ciation (JKPWA) expressing concerns over the long struggle of the employees of the then Govt Transport Undertaking (GTU) dem-anded early release of residual benefits in favor of Retd Govt officers/ Offic-ials part of erstwhile Govt Transport Undertaking (GTU) treated as on deputation with J&K SRTC at time of incorporation after the Govt Transport Undert-aking (GTU) was converted into J&K State Road Trans-port Corporation (J&K SRTC) in the year 1979.
Speaking in a press conference here today, Sampat Prakash state president JKPWA, said, "The terms and conditions of the adjustment of GTU staff in J&K SRTC have been prescribed under Govt. order No. 25-TR of 1979 dated 27-03-1979 read with Govt. order No. 26-TR of 1979 dated 29-03-1979."
"The guidelines, interalia, prescribed that the employees on deputation with SRTC and their service conditions shall be regulated accordingly, he said adding that after implementation of 6th pay commission to 577 persons have retired as govt employees from J&K SRTC. These employees are entitled from time to time during their " Cash in lieu of leave salary" payable to retired GTU employees is however pending settlement for quite some time now." He added that in the month of July 2012 codes section of the Finance department has however observed that the financial implication in respect of this case needs to be worked out and refer to Govt./ Finance Department (UO No. A/28 (2009)-1-5-23 dated 3-7-2012. Needful has been done by the Secretary Commi-ssioner Transport/ MD SRTC vide his letter dated 11-10-2012.
"We are now told that the JKSRTC is being asked to arrange funds for the purpose from out of their recourse. A strange and uncalled for argument raised at this stage of settlement of this case. Needless to point out the govt. has to meet this claim also as it has done in case of other retirement benefits paid to these retirees, he rued raising the issues of retired employees.
"J&K Pensioners Welfare Association strongly supports the demands of these retired employees of erstwhile GTU and requested the Finance Department to do the needful even if it may call for giving budgetary or any other support to the JKSRTC, he said. Pensioner being Senior citizens have a right to hustle free dignified life for which no constraint should be created and if that is done the consequences there of shall be entire responsibility of the government.
Highlighting the demand of employees he demanded, early release of residual leave salary (after 6th Pay commission) for 577 retires of GTU amounting to Rs 3.83 lakhs; Release of Pay arrears (6th Pay commission installments); Pay band / Pay normally; hike of medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 and further increase of pension on central pattern after crossing the age of 80.
