| Traffic Lights become "Flop-Show", Govt to identify new Locations…! | | Loss to State ex-chequer | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 14: In what could perceived as sheer wastage of State ex-chequer worth over hundred lakhs of rupees, the much awaited Traffic Lights Signal have proved to be a Flop-Show here in the winter capital of the State. It is learnt that Government has constituted a joint team of several Government departments which is again surveying and identifying new locations as the existing points of traffic lights have added more chaos on Jammu roads instead of clearing the traffic jams. It is pertinent to mention here that the said project of installation of Traffic Lights Signal worth about Rs. 2.50 crores was executed by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on behalf of Traffic Department and the first 30 points were installed and formally inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand on August 4. Ironically, within four and a half month, the Traffic Light Signal proved a failure. Sources revealed that "the main reason behind the failure of traffic light signals is improper survey by the earlier team. The locations identified prior to the installation of Traffic Light Signals were not properly studied/surveyed due to which it added more chaos in prevailing vehicular movement. At present, Jammu houses more than five lakh vehicles that excludes tourist, Government and security forces' vehicles." "Besides, the traffic cops deployed in various city locations are also not properly imparted training to deal with the violators. At many places, people jump traffic lights with Traffic Cops standing as mute spectators," sources added. Sources further revealed that "a joint team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Roads and Building Department, PDD and Traffic Police wing has been re-constituted which is surveying and identifying new locations besides alternative points for existing traffic lights. Even the final payment has not been paid to the concerned company which has raised the Traffic Light Signals despite the fact that the Company has done nothing wrong." |
