Gynaecologists' mafia works overtime at SMGS hospital
12/15/2012 12:00:58 AM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 14: More interested in calls from private nursing homes of the city, the Gynaecologists at the SMGS hospital are literally playing with the lives of expecting mothers admitted in the maternity ward of the hospital. Especially those who have no acquaintances or connections in the hospital are meted out a raw deal invariably.
Most of the gynaecologists posted at SMGS hospital have affiliation with private hospitals and clinics where they get handful amount to bring in patients. Patient who comes to the hospital after consulting a particular doctor during pregnancy is never attended to by other doctor even if the patient needs immediate attention. "If someone is consulting a particular doctor throughout the pregnancy, she should come to the hospital only when that doctor is on duty or else she shall not be attended to," said an expecting mother.
A patient from Kishtwar who was referred to SMGS hospital for delivery due to a cardiac ailment was left waiting in the labour room for hours because the doctor she had consulted before coming to the hospital was not on duty at that point of time. "No doctor cared to attend my wife and neither called a cardiologist despite having prior information about the case," said the husband of the lady in question. The family then had to go in a private hospital where the lady delivered her baby under specialized care.
Sources divulge that this is not an isolated case as doctors brazenly behave as agents of private nursing homes and try gimmicks to drive patients to nursing homes in exchange for hefty cuts they get from them.
