| Committee submits report to GAD, silent on contents | | Will Govt fix any responsibility for negligence …? | | early times report Jammu, Dec 14: In a swift follow up of things post collapse of portions of state Assembly Secretariat building on Tuesday last, the committee set up by the government to probe into the matter to find out reasons for mishap and also look into safety aspects of the old structure submitted its report today to General Administration Department . However, the vital question which still remains unanswered is as to who is responsible for the loss and damage of this historic building . The Committee consisting of Chief Engineers of some vital departments besides MD of JKPCC as its members are learnt to have discussed in detail all aspects of the matter with thrust on safety aspect of the old building before going ahead with the work on new project. The work on new project has also been confined for now to construction of protection wall and other related requirements. "The committee met today and deliberated on all requisite aspects….the Chairman after receiving the viewpoint of all members has drafted the report and submitted to government…", said MD of JKPCC who is one of the members . He also confirmed the team of consultants from Delhi having come and taken assessment of the prevailing position both on site of construction as also about condition of the old building. "They will convey to JKPCC as to how it can take forward movement by taking into consideration the existing position on ground. The progress and speed with which the work has to be taken would be determined also by the inputs they have collected after visit to the site…..", he said explaining that both the things are interlinked and interdependent, implying the condition of the existing structure would determine how and when work has to proceed on new project. However all the members refused to divulge any details with regard to contents of the report they have submitted. In all likelihood, the committee has discussed issues related to safety aspects post the incident witnessed on Tuesday night. Whether any responsibility has been fixed for apparent negligence on part of the contractor concerned or nor remains to be seen and can come to fore only after government makes it public in a couple of days. The Committee was formed by the Chief Secretary soon after the mishap took place on Tuesday. |
