early times report JAMMU, Dec 14: The star-studded side of Punjab Police today emerged as new champion in the 61st All India Police Hockey after they registered a big 6-1 win against SSB in the final played at K K Hakhu Stadium, here this afternoon. Hosts Jammu and Kashmir had to contain with fourth position after they were beaten by last year's champion, Border Security Force (BSF) by three goals to nil in the hardliner. In the final, SSB was no match for the formidable side of Punjab Police and suffered a 1-6 defeat. Satwinder Singh (3rd, 10th) and Gaganjeet Singh (17th, 62nd) were top scorers with two goals each while Amandeep and Baljeet Singh added one goal each netting the ball in the 36th and 54th minute of the match. H Suraj Chandra scored the only goal from SSB in the 19th minute. In all, 26 teams, representing different state and Central forces, contested in this championship on league-cum-knockout basis. In the final and valedictory function of the eight-day mega event, hosted by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani as chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.
