| Sharma calls on PM, demands special recruitment for border areas | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 14 : Member Parliament Jammu Poonch Constituency Madan Lal Sharma today called on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and discussed issues related to his constituency. He also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister highlighting the demands and requested him to direct Railway Ministry to start the work on Railway Line Project from Jammu to Poonch via Akhnoor-Rajouri on priority. Sharma also stressed upon boosting tourism by developing pilgrimage destinations in Rajouri-Poonch districts like Budha Amarnath, Shahdara Sharief, Nangali Sahib, Mangla Mata, Manma Mata, Sain Meera Shrine, ancient forts and places like Noori Chambb, DKG, Budhal and Mandi to attract the tourists to visit these places after visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. He also raised the issues of border inhabitants and informed the Prime Minister that increase in shelling from across the border in Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts has added to the miseries of the people who are finding it difficult to sow their fields. He urged for insurance to their lives, belongings, crops and a special recruitment drive of Army and para military from these border areas. The MP also demanded that the victims of border shelling and mine blasts may be given compensation at par with militancy victims. He also demanded a one-time settlement of issues of all refugees including those of 1947, 1965, 1971 and West Pak refugees. Hailing the LPG cash subsidy transfer scheme and cap from 6 to 9 cylinders, Sharma urged the Prime Minister to implement scheme on top priority in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir particularly in border districts of Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch and demanded increase in cap to 12 subsidized cylinders. The Prime Minister gave a patient hearing to Sharma and assured him an early redressal of his demands. |
