J-K Forest Dept removes encroachments on 217 acres of land

Jammu, Dec 19: Jammu and Kashmir State Forest department has removed encroachments on 217 acres of forest land in Jammu division this year.
As many as 1,016 kanals (217 Acres) of encroached forest land has been removed and four illegal structures have been dismantled, while eight vehicles involved in forest offences were seized during the last nine months in Jammu Division except Poonch and Rajouri districts, J-K Forest department spokesman said today.
The Forest Department has planted 3.45 lakh plants over 500 hectares of degraded forest land in Billawar, Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur and Ramanagar forest divisions during last monsoon season, he said.
Under a flagship programme, 25,000 plants were planted during a special drive to increase the green cover in Jammu city, he added. Moreover, 1.18 lakh plants are also being planted in Kandi belts of Parmandal and Bajalta areas by Ecological Task Force, spokesman said.
As many as 3.97 lakh more plants would be planted in Jammu Division during current winter season under the CAMPA programme.
