| CM wants to replicate SHG model of Rahul's constituency | | JKWDC website paints a blank picture……….! | | early times report Jammu, Dec 19: On Tuesday when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accompanied one of his best friends and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on a whirlwind tour of Amethi Parliamentary constituency he came face to face with the working of the women self help groups in Uttar Pradesh. Moving around with the scion of Gandhi dynasty Omar appreciated the model of the SHG's adopted in the Amethi and also gave a commitment that now he would implement the scheme in his home state too. Interacting with the media persons Omar had yesterday commented, "I had earlier visited Amethi along with my father Dr Farooq Abdullah several years ago but now I found a lot of development here especially in Self Help Groups". Before heading for Amethi if Chief Minister had spared some time to update himself with the success story of Self Help groups in his own state and logged on to the website of the state Women's development corporation he would have failed to gather required information. The important link of the success stories on the website www.jkwdc.com has no concrete information to offer to impress the netizens barring one case study. The other links such as Photo Gallery carry only few pictures and brief introduction about the working of the WDC. The brief note on WDC mentions, the J&K State Women's Development Corporation, functioning since 1994, is actively working with the Self Help Groups in the state and in the recent exhibitions organized by the Womens' Development corporation at least 600 SHG's were engaged to showcase their work. WDC, according to official sources, has also taken an initiative of training women in jute accessories and thereafter framing Self Help Groups and then supplying Jute Prasad Bags to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. According to official sources the initiative has helped the needy women to earn their livelihood and become self reliant at their door step. The corporation is also implementing the different schemes such as National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, National Backward classes Finance and Development corporation, National Handicapped Finance and Development corporation, Empowering skilled young women (ESW scheme) etc.
