| Baramulla, Jammu discourse | | Govt 'impressed' with Dr Chowdhary, no penalization mantra goes on | | Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Dec 19: Brazenness and hardheartedness at its worst! State Government seems to have decided not to yield to even tears of the poor and downtrodden people of Jammu region. What to talk of Justice, even temporary relief seems to have flown out of the windows of Civil Secretariat. A call in the morning would be made to this Correspondent informing me that 'I am parochial and trying to unnecessarily poke my nose in an already settled issue.' Death of a one and a half year old Baby, belonging to one of the country's most backward district i.e. Doda is a non-issue since from national to international agencies, none wants to know what is happening in the mountainous terrains of erstwhile district Doda. It is neither on UN agenda nor does it bother the local politicians. It does not make news if father and mother of an infant sit on dharna, seeking justice in any part of Jammu region i.e. from Banihal to borders in Rajouri-Poonch belt. State Government does not believe the story, which has appeared in almost all the local dailies with even few going to the extent of publishing prescription slip issued by controversial Principal of GMC Dr. Aniece Chowdhary, also HOD of ENT Department to the parents of the one and a half year old toddler from his private clinic. Government seems to be convinced that the poor family has manufactured evidence and that Dr. Aniece is innocent. Vice-versa, this 'parochial journalist' is compelled to seek answers from the Government for inaction in the case of deaths in SMGS Hospital especially against Principal GMC Dr. Aniece Chowdhary and action, in another case of deaths of two new born babies in the newly set up Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) in district hospital Baramulla. Government acted fast and suspended Medical Superintendent, Generator Operator and Nurse, accusing them of being negligent, when the fact is that despite being bracketed as essential service, power failure took place in the newly set up Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) in district hospital Baramulla. Whatever the two families of these two new born babies said was accepted by Government immediately while in the case of one and a half year old losing life in SMGS Hospital Jammu, Government preferred the other way around. Few highly conscious individuals stated that Dr. Aniece Chowdhary is innocent and is being victimized by a group of doctors. They even went to the extent of saying that since Chowdhary belongs to a particular community, Shiv Sena and other fanatic Hindu organizations want him out of office. But none asked question in Baramulla incident. One ponders, if the same thing would have happened in Kashmir valley, where would have Dr. Aniece Chowdhary by now? But it is Jammu and especially district Doda. National Conference (NC) has one MLA while Congress has five MLAs. So, the stakes of party leading the coalition are few. Congress leaders from Doda including Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have failed to register even a meek protest with the State Government against this cruel and barbaric incident. They are seemingly in hibernation and waiting for another tragedy for lodging protest. One is compelled to state that it is height of non-seriousness on the part of Government that a precious life has been lost and Government is unmoved. None is asking the law department to take up the issue on priority basis and get the stay vacated so that if there is some Government will; action could be initiated against the Principal. But from Chief Minister to concerned Minister, it seems Dr. Chowdhary has impressed all and none wants to show him the door. Meanwhile, Government seemingly to befool and puzzle commoners removed Dr. Aniece Chowdhary from HoD ship of ENT Department. Dr Prof Sunil Kotwal, who is next senior most in the ENT Department has been designated as Head of Department (HOD). Further, it has been stated in the information handout that magisterial inquiry has been ordered to probe the facts pertaining to the recent death of an infant in SMGS Hospital. Beside this, Financial Advisor of Health and Medical Education, Yaqoob Ittoo has been directed to submit a factual report regarding various allegations made against Dr Aniece Chowdhary. While the inquiry was time bound in the case of deaths in Baramulla Hospital, no such yardstick has been mentioned in the case of deaths in SMGS Hospital, Jammu. |
