Panthers Party criticises Govt for postponing Municipal polls
12/19/2012 10:57:37 PM
early times report
Jammu, Dec 19: Ques-tioning state government's approach towa-rds ensuring decentralisation of power, the Jammu and Kashmir National Panth-ers Party today criticised its decision to again postpone elections to urban local bodies.
"The coalition government is persistently playing truant on holding the elections and resorting to lame excuses for depriving the urban areas of their democratic rights on one pretext or the other", JKNPP Chairman Harsh Dev Singh said.
He noted that there could be no justification to the postponing of the polls for the fifth time as related exercises like revision of voter lists and delimitation of wards have been regularly conducted year after year.
Stating that the elections, due in 2010, are already delayed by three years, Singh alleged the state government adopted similar approach towards conducting BDC elections and constitution of Panchayati Adalats.
