Jammu, Feb 5: The Election Commission has announced elections on March 7 to fill up eight seats of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council which are falling vacant following retirement of sitting members.
Rajinder Singh Chib, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Ali Mohammad Butt, Naresh Gupta, Murtaza Khan, Davinder Rana, Nizam Ud Din Khanday and MY Taing will complete their tenure as Member of Legislative Council (MLC) on February 15, 2013.
One seat is likely to go to PDP. One is reserved for erstwhile district Doda for which Naresh Gupta present MLC, State Secretary Congress Thakur Jugal Bhandari, Rtd DySP Aslam Malik, Senior Congress Leader Kotwal, are front runners.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had given the task to Union Health Minister GN Azad and Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz to give 2 names each. Azad will submit one name from erstwhile Doda district and other from Srinagar. |
