| NGREA, BADP schemes not reaching people in remote border areas | | PDP, Gujjar leaders demand high level probe | | early times report JAMMU, Feb 5: The thousands and crores of rupees brought from Centre for the development of rural and border areas don't reach to the people in remote and border areas. The people in the remote and border areas of the state have made umpteen complaints with the authorities but to no avail. There are complaints in the tribal areas that the funds meant for Tribal Sub plan do not reach the tribal areas for development. Many times protest demonstrations have been held by various Gujjar organizations including the Bharatiya Gujjar Maha Sangh led by Mr Poswal at Rajouri and Poonch protesting against misuse of funds by the concerned agencies meant for tribal sub plan. The Gujjar leaders demanded high level probe into the misutilisation of funds and action against the guilty. They also demanded that Government should give account of the funds received from the Centre under Tribal Sub plan as the same have not been spent on ground. The concern has not been shown by the Gujjar leaders in the sate against the misappropriation of the funds meant for various schemes but people living in remote and border areas of the state also feel neglected and deprived of the benefits of the various central welfare schemes. A delegation of the people that met the visiting senior PDP leaders including the Deputy Speaker State Assembly Sartaj Madni in the remote border belt of Hiranagar yesterday alleged that no Central welfare scheme has reached the area. Even the people showed total ignorance about the NREGA which is meant for the development of the rural and remote areas. The people in the border area also feigned ignorance about the much talked about Border Area Development Progr-amme (BADP) saying that they know nothing about the same and no developmental project has been taken up in hand in this remote border belt under the scheme while crores of rupees have been received by the Centre under the scheme. Expressing concern over the non seriousness of the Government towards the welfare of the people especially in remote and border areas the PDP leaders sought a high level probe into the matter to ascertain where the money received from Centre has gone. Alleging misappropriation of funds the PDP leaders said that Centre should itself monitor the schemes run under the Central schemes like NREGA, Tribal Sub Plan and BADP schemes and ensure that these schemes reach to the people at grass root level. Terming the claims of the State Government on development totally hollow they said that the funds coming from Centre for the welfare of the people in the state go down the drain as maximum schemes do not see the light of the day and exist on papers only. Expressing concern over the people living in border and remote areas of the state the Gujjar and PDP leaders said that coalition Government has failed to come to their expectations and all promises made by them have proved totally hollow. They warned agitation in case State Government fails to punish the erring officers who deprived the people of border and remote areas from the benefits of Central sponsored schemes. |
