| Exiled Janbaaz supports all girl rock band | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Feb 5: "I was an approved singer of All India Radio and I was forced to live in exile after I was targeted by the radical elements for my singing passion," said Alam Ara Jaanbaaz a veteran singer and daughter of a great Kashmiri poet Ghulam Nabi Doolwal commonly known as Jaanbaaz Kishtwari. Alam Ara and her family were forced to flee Kishtwar in 2004 because of threat from radical elements. While talking to the "Early Times" Alam Ara facing exile at Jammu since last 9 years said that she felt pain about the fatwa issued against the three Kashmiri girls. She has now voiced her support for the all girl rock band which has decided to quit in the wake of fatwa issued against them by a grand Mufti terming the singing as un-islamic. She said that singing is a virtuous profession and that no one can stop her from singing. "After 9 years of exile, I don't understand why they threatened me", she said. She said that threat to her life came soon after her Album was released in J & K, beside its telecast on local cable channel."I found nothing wrong in singing suffi songs. My album was totally based on suffi songs. The threat was unjustified", she said. "I was forced to flee Kishtwar after threat posters appeared on the walls of local Masjids of Kishtwar" said she. After fleeing Kishtwar, she had never returned. "How can I forget Kishtwar which I have left 9 years ago--- I was raised by my parents there . I studied there and over all I have been emotionally linked to my birth place", she said. She even lodged an FIR with local police station, but nothing happened. She said that even though she was living in exile, she misses her home town Kishtwar where she did not go due threat to her life. Her father Ghulam Nabi Doolwal added new dimensions to the Kashmiri music and singing as result of which the songs sung by her father are popular and liked by masses particularly among the Kashmiri society even after 40 years. She said that singing was her passion and will never quit it. Meanwhile Manmohan Gupta, friend of the father of Alam Ara Jaanbaaz came in her support and termed the threat against the basic ethics. Gupta said that the house of Jaanbaaz Kishtwari which presents a deserted look today where melodious music and songs would provide solace to the people. "I have seen great politicians like Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, Mir Qasim and even Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah enjoying and dancing to the songs sung by Jaanbaaz Kishtwari during musical events in Kashmir" said Manmohan Gupta. While recounting the incident that forced Jaanbaaz Kishtwar family to flee, Gupta said that some vested interests enteedr the house of Jaanbaaz Kishtwar and destroyed all the musical instruments and snatched the camea of Doordarshan Srinagar team who had arrived at Kishtwar to cover special program on the life of Jaanbaaz Kishtwari. Gupta added that if security forces had not been arrived on time, the militants might have wiped-out the whole family. He said that government instead of turning blind face towards the threat given by the fringe elements to the music lover should be dealt with iron hands. |
