| After Pragaash burial, police take note of FB posts | | | Javaid Naikoo Jammu, Feb 5: After Girl's Band's (Pragaash) unceremonious burial, the police have taken cognizance of the Facebook threats. A case FIR No. 5/2013 under Section 66 A of the IT Act and Section 506 RPC (Criminal Intimidation) has been registered in police station Rajbagh Srinagar. Police sources said an open FIR has been registered with regard to the comments posted on the Facebook page of the Pragaash band some days ago. According to the police sources all people particularly youth whose comments were intimidating and vulgar will be thoroughly analyzed and then strict action will be taken against the erring youth. They said a few of them have been identified from Anantnag, Srinagar and Bijhbehara and investigation is going on. Pragaash is the first girls' band of Kashmir. The band evoked reaction from political and social circles recently. The grand Mufti, Bashir ud Din who termed the band un-Islamic on Monday. Three 10th-class students Noma Nazir, Farah Deeba and Aneeka Khalid had formed a singing band "Pragash" and performed in a competition in Srinagar and won the best performance award in their first public appearance. The competition was sponsored by CRPF. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also among the large number of political leaders who extended their heartfelt support to the girls and urged them not shun their passion of singing because of a few ill minded people in the society. However seeing the reactions from different circles on the issue, pragaash finally decided to quit. |
