| Devan may finally take over as CS | | Madhav shifted to Delhi | | Bashir Assad Jammu, Feb 5: With the incumbent Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal appointed Secretary, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Union Government, decks seem to have been cleared now for Parvez Devan to take over as the next CS to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, according to sources. Madhav Lal, a 1977 batch IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre has been, according to sources, shifted and will now be Secretary to Ministry of MSME, replacing Vivek Rae. However, official sources declined to comment on the issue. But the State Government has already conveyed no objection to Government of India in sparing any top job for him. Lal was empanelled as Secretary to Government of India last year and has been keen to move out of the State. However, he had to wait for a suitable position to fall vacant in the Centre. Meanwhile, rumors were rife in the Civil Secretariat today that Jammu and Kashmir Government has opted for 1977 batch IAS officer, Parvez Devan who is presently Secretary in Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and is the second senior most officer followed by Anil Goswami . Devan has served as Secretary GAD and also Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and has some publications to his credit. Despite initial reluctance of Devan to come to the state, it has been reliably learnt that there were some last minute efforts to win him over to head the state administration. Reportedly Chief Minister was more inclined to get Devan back with some behind the scene elements impressing upon the Ministry of Personal and Trainings and also the Cabinet Secretary for installation of Devan as J&K Chief Secretary. Pertinently this news paper had reported some 12 days back that Omar Abdullah was interested in Parvez Devan rather than other including Anil Goswami and M Iqbal Khanday for this pivotal position. |
