| NC fields 2 candidates from South Kashmir | | Will they do miracle for Omar? | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 19: In a bid to regain some of the lost ground, the National Conference has fielded two candidates from South Kashmir for the legislative Council elections scheduled to be held on March 7. South Kashmir is now believed to be a strong bastion of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP has made inroads in South Kashmir since 2002 Assembly elections. The NC move of fielding two candidates for the LC elections has been perceived as a move to woo the voters. The PDP, however, has rejected the move as a futile exercise. The PDP believes that the NC has lost whatever goodwill it had in the Valley after Guru hanging. The NC-Congress coalition has been compared to a Hindi serial where people know the end before the serial actually ends. The PDP quarters have predicted total rout of NC during the 2014 elections. "It will be a miracle, if NC gets a few seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections from the area", they said. Pertinently PDP has 12 out of 16 MLAs from South Kashmir. While the figures speak a lot about NC's chances in the 2014 elections, NC hopes against hope to win over the area by fielding Showkat Hussain and Abdul Majid who hail from the area. Sakina Itoo happens to be the only NC MLA from the area. Peerzada Syed belongs to Congress and Tarigami to CPI (M). |
