| Aftermath DPS girl's Death: Team set up to monitor school transport | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 19: The Traffic Police of Jammu finds that the absence of the conductor was the main reason for the death of the DPS girl. The department in collaboration with the Transport department of the State has constituted a team, which will personally check the condition of all the school buses of Jammu. The death of the student in the school premises by the school bus, was highly condoled and condemned by the Jammuites, the Traffic and Transport departments came in action after the incident. Manmohan Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic said, "A conductor is must for the heavy vehicle, especially for the School Bus. The absence of the conductor was the main reason for the death of the DPS girl." "A team headed by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) has been constituted to personally check the condition and documents of all the school buses," he added. This team, accompanied by a DySP Traffic, will ensure that all the school buses are in good condition, well trained driver/conductor, the vehicle is not more than 25 year-old and following all the guidelines given by the Supreme Court for School Buses. The department has seized 13 school buses after the tragic death of the student of Delhi Public School in Jammu, who was crushed to death by the School bus on February 7. All 13 vehicles belongs to the most expensive public schools of the City, like DPS, KC International, Shiksha Niketan, Jodhamal Public School etc. The Buses were later released by the Court after the fine. Some of the buses were without conductors, some were without proper documents and some of them were not following the guidelines given by the Supreme Court for School buses. The Traffic Police had also made a survey of the school buses of the City in January this year, in which they had checked the documents and other things about the school buses, and many of the vehicles were challaned during that drive. According to the Traffic Police, "No vehicle was found more than 25-year old during the drive". |
