| Resentment within disgruntled NC cadre nearing climax | | Former legislators, office bearers rue anarchy of party leadership | | Mustansir SRINAGAR, Feb 19: The brewing resentment within the ruling National Conference is likely to fuel dissidence and become a rallying point for NC dissidents. About 62 senior leaders and former legislators have convened a meeting in Jammu on Saturday to give vent to their feelings and warn NC leadership for not consulting them in decision making. Sources within the NC informed that there is a strong resentment among the senior leaders and ex-legislators against the leadership particularly in the backdrop of NC's decision of appointing Nasir Aslam Wani and Devinder Singh Rana as provincial presidents for Kashmir and Jammu provinces followed by nominating youngsters for Upper House who are alien to the National Conference. Sources said most of the ex-legislators and senior leaders/workers have decided to raise their voice against what they termed " anarchy" of the NC leadership and their ignorance towards the party workers who have stood by the party through thick and thin. Sources said that about 62 senior NC leaders and former legislators are meeting in Jammu on Saturday to devise a common strategy to fight against "insensitivity of the NC leadership" and built pressure on it for taking on board the senior leaders before taking decision in future. " We have given lot of sacrifices during last 30 years for the party and stood by it despite all odds but unfortunately the party has gone into alien hands who even did not know who is who," sources quoted a senior NC leader and former legislator as having said. They said that a good number of party leaders are now openly criticizing the leadership for appointing Nasir Wani and Devinder Rana as provincial presidents and also the decision of nominating two new faces from Kashmir to the Upper House. "We have a respectable leader who was denied mandate in 2008 from a Srinagar constituency on the promise that he will be accommodated in the Upper House. But when the Government was formed and command was given to Nasir Wani the same leader was ditched thrice by the leadership. "He was the man who would keep the NC flag flying during peak militancy period when Nasir was not even a member of the party but now our fate lies in his hands," sources quoted another NC leader as having said. They said that the senior leaders and former legislators have this time decided to wage a war with the leadership for ignoring them in decision making. They said that the brewing resentment could even culminate in a split in ruling NC as the dissidents are enjoying support of some heavy weights. While confirming the reports a senior NC leader and former legislator on the conditions of anonymity told ET that he along with other senior leaders are about to leave for Jammu to attend the meeting scheduled for Saturday. He also confirmed that a number of leaders have already arrived at Jammu and many others are stationed there busy in making the arrangements for the meeting. "Yes, we are meeting in Jammu on Saturday to discuss the future course of action," the NC leader said. |
