| In difficult times, Govt has party on mind! | | Winter carnival at Patnitop | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 19: The Department of Tourism in collaboration with Patnitop Development Authority is holding a Winter Carnival at the health resort from February 20. The carnival that will end on February 21 offers an array of entertaining activities ranging from fun sliding to cultural extravaganza.
Promoting tourism must be at the top of the priority list of the Government. But what does the Government expect from the exercise? Patnitop with its limited accommodation will not be in a position to host too many people. Of course, a few fun seekers mainly from Jammu and Udhampur will make it to the health resort. Tourism experts believe the carnival is not going to help the authorities much in achieving whatever objectives they have in mind.
It has also been perceived as tactic to divert the attention of the masses from grave issues concerning them. When the people should be protesting hike in petrol and other essentials, the Government expects them to take part in snow man making competition at Patnitop. "In difficult times, Govt has party on the mind", a commoner was heard saying in the city of temples. |
