| Aftermath Guru's hanging: Protests revisit valley over return of Guru's Body | | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Feb 19: The demand for return of Afzal Guru's body seems gaining support in Kashmir as the people from different walks of life have started coming in protest in different ways at different places impressing upon Government to take immediate steps in this regard. Terming the return of the body of Afzal Guru, a humanitarian issue, Forum for Justice and Human Rights (FJHR) chairman, Mohammad Ahsan Anto today protested in Press Colony Srinagar with a banner depicting "Hang every Kashmiri or return Afzal's body to his relatives." He also threatened he (Anto) will go for an indefinite hunger strike outside the parliament in New Delhi if body of Guru is not returned within a period of two weeks. Yet in similar protest, the Bar Association Shopian staged a protest near court road and demanding the early steps to get Afzal Guru's body to Kashmir. Members of the bar association also said that they will support any protest programme which supports the return of the Afzal's body to Kashmir. One senior advocate of Shopian, Muhammad iqbal Shah of Shopian urged the Government to work speedily in this connection otherwise things can further deteriorate in Kashmir. To support the ongoing move in valley the Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) taking a step beyond re-named the one of university entrance square as the 'Afzal Guru square and also staged a protest march within the university campus, demanding the early return of Afzal Guru's body. KUSU admired the protest demonstrations of students in Delhi and Dehradun against Afzal Guru Hanging case past few days before and condemned the retaliation from hard liner groups against the protesting students in outside the Jammu and Kashmir. Meantime the Guru's relatives too are committed to take up the battle to any level until the body of Afzal Guru is not returned and thus the efforts are being made at various political and non political levels to expedite the procedure for return of Afzal Guru's body. |
