| Power crisis in Vijaypur belt, locals stage protests | | | early times report vijaypur, Aug 3: Shops and business establishments were shut and vehicular traffic was disrupted in Vijaypur belt in Jammu region's Samba district today as locals staged protests demanding adequate power supply. Raising anti-government slogans, nearly 1500 people, including women, staged a demonnstration in Vijaypur to protest what they said acute power shortage in the border town. They also staged a sit-in on the Jammu-Pathankot highway near the town blocking road traffic, officials said. They lifted the sit-in after the authorities promised adequate power supply. All shops and business establishment were shut in the town in response to a call by traders to protest the power shortage. The protesters said they were getting electric supply only for six to seven hours a day. |
