Ladakh seeks separation from J&K, erupts in protest

Jammu, Aug 3: After Jammu and many other parts of the country, protests rocked Leh district of Ladakh today in favour of the separate state for Ladakh division of Jammu and Kashmir State on the pattern of Telangana.
According to details received, the protest demonstration which was organized by Bhartiya Janata party members of Ladakh division in Leh district was also joined by members of Ladakh Hill development council and protestors were demanding a separate state for the division like Telangana pattern without any further delay.
The protestors said that separate state for Ladakh is nothing new instead their demand is now decades old. Besides, Ladakh is among 15 other regions of the country after Telangana which is listed with Home Ministry of the country demanding separate state for the region on the bases of its unique characteristics which include its cultural bindings, religion, geographical location of the area, economic status and what not.
The protestors said that Ladakh division is a neglected region of Jammu and Kashmir and except a separate state for the region they don't see any way out to met to the aspirations of the people of the area and develop the region on modern lines, besides they dream to make the area a living territory which could remain connected with rest of the world throughout the year in this twenty first century.
Besides ex-chief executive councilor of Ladakh Hill development, Tseing Dorjai, senior Bhartiya Janata Party member, Thupstan Tsewang along with thirty other members of the party and some members of Ladakh Hill development council were leading the protests and were demanding that central Government should take immediate steps in this regard like they did in the case of Telangana.
Some locals of the area who were also part of protests said that they have in past and will also support any such of move Ladakh Hill development council or any other political party which demand a separate state for the area as respective Governments of the state have always neglected this part of the state from development perspective and are repeating it again and again.
Talking to Early Times, acting chief executive councilor of Ladakh hill development council, Rigzin Spalbar said that the demand for separate state for Ladakh division does not mean any sort separation from India but instead it is a demand for special care for this neglected region of the Jammu and Kashmir state within the constitution of India.
He said that now when many other parts of the country are demanding separate states, Ladakh Hill development council has put the same kind of demand some decades before the central Government of the country and now we feel that time has come to fulfill that long pending demand of the people of Ladakh division.
"We have a history, a unique culture, language, economic status and geographical territory which differentiates us from the rest of the country and on the bases of these things we feel Ladakh should be given a special status in the form a separate state "said chief executive councilor, Ladakh Hill development councilor
He also said that under the banner of Ladakh Hill development council, people of Ladakh will always demand a separate state for the area and protests demonstrations will be conducted every time they feel need of protest demonstrations to press central Government to fulfill and other concerned authorities to fulfill their long pending demand of a separate state for the Ladakh division of Jammu and Kashmir state.
