Kupwara encounter toll goes up to 14 13 militants, soldier killed 8/4/2013 12:43:51 AM Bashir Assad Srinagar, Aug3; In one of the major anti-insurgency operations, the security forces have killed 13 militants so for in frontier Kupwara district in North Kashmir, one army Jawan was also killed in the gunfight which was still continuing. The infiltrating militants were killed in Machil, Tanghdar sector and Hafruda forests in Handwara. The anti-insurgency operation which was launched by the security forces in Tanghdar sector on Monday last after noticing the militants sneaking into this side from across the border still continues and so for 13 militants have been killed, however, army suspects some more militants are hiding in the Tanghdar forests. Two militants and an Army jawan were killed late last night along the LoC in Tanghdar, taking the number of militants killed in the operation to 13 which is one of the major operations .A defense spokesperson told Early Times that fresh gun battle between the security forces and the militants ragged in Tanghdar sector late last night which continued for some time and in the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed. He said another militant was killed during the day on Friday taking the total number of militants killed so far in the operation to 13.He said a soldier also lost his life in the operation which was going on at the time of filing this report. One AK 47 rifle, three magazines and three sleeping bags were recovered from the scene of the latest encounter, he said.The spokesman said an Army search party recovered body of one more militant from Hafruda forest along the LoC in Kupwara today, raising the number of militants killed in the operation to six. Five militants were killed when army foiled an infiltration bid in Hafruda forest area of Handwara on Thursday.Earlier, four infiltrating militants were killed in Machil Sector on Tuesday while one ultra was shot dead in Keran sector of the district on Monday.Army has been put on high alert along the LoC in the Valley following intelligence inputs about presence of large number of militants at the launching pads across the LoC.The alert was sounded immediately after the troops shot dead five infiltrating militants in Keran Sector on July 9.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
